CU Celebrates Six Newly Qualified Undergraduate Chartered Accountants

The Covenant University Management celebrates the remarkable achievement of six undergraduate students from the Department of Accounting, who recently passed the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) examinations, to qualify as Associate Chartered Accountants. This milestone was facilitated by the Covenant Professional Accountancy Center (C-PAC), which proudly presented the outstanding students who excelled in the May 2024 Professional Examination, while maintaining a CGPA of above 4.6, to the University Management. The newly qualified Chartered Accountants are Ashilere Emmanuella Janet, Okoh Angel Ogochukwu, Adeleye Fred Oluwapelumi, Adams Favour Omozei, Ajirotutu Oluwademilade Oreoluwa, and Kalu-Uche Praise Nnaemeka. During the presentation event, the Head, Department of Accounting, Professor Francis Iyoha, introduced the 400-level students to the Vice-Chancellor. He emphasized that their success was a significant achievement made possible by the Grace of God; while extending his gratitude to the University Management, faculty, and colleagues who contributed to this great accomplishment. Professor Iyoha praised the students for making the University proud and highlighted the consistent success of Covenant University students in the Accounting Technician Scheme (ATS) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) examinations. He noted that the department monitors first-class students from their first year to ensure they are well-prepared for these examinations, aiming for them to be Certified Accountants by their final year. Speaking on behalf of the newly qualified Chartered Accountants, Ashilere Emmanuella Janet, expressed her gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, the entire University Management, their Head of Department, and their coordinator. She acknowledged the University's resources, including Wi-Fi and a serene environment, as significant factors contributing to their success. The Coordinator of C-PAC, Dr. Alex Adegboye, congratulated the students, recalling how he had assured them that 40 days of preparation was sufficient to pass the examination. He expressed his joy at their success, giving glory to God and thanking the University for facilitating the program. He expressed hope for more qualified students in the future. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the newly qualified Chartered Accountants and the Department of Accounting staff present at the meeting. He expressed his delight in formally welcoming and recognizing the students’ achievements before showcasing them to the entire University community. He noted that the Chancellor was also aware of this great feat and appreciated the dedication of the University staff and faculty. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the difficulty of the examination, noting that some people take it multiple times without passing. He praised the students for their determination, and urged them to remain humble and continuously strive for success. Quoting Winston Churchill, he reminded them that Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. He equally advised the students to support others who might be struggling, emphasizing that their success should inspire and uplift others.
